Read Psalm 62:5.
There is a great lack in our religion ... we do not know
God! (Andrew Murray)
Many are powerless because they fail to wait on God.
How we are to wait on God.
ƒ Wait all the day (Ps. 25:4,5).
The special seasons of prayer should cultivate a habitual
looking upwards "all the day".
A soul cannot seek close fellowship with God, or attain the abiding
consciousness of waiting on Him all the day, without a very honest and entire
surrender to all His will.
ƒ Wait patiently (Ps. 37:7,9).
w In
patience possess your souls (Luke 21:19).
w Let
patience have its perfect work (James 1:4).
w Ye
have need of patience (Heb. 10:36).
Nowhere is there a better place to cultivate patience than
in waiting on God.
ƒ Quietly wait (Lam. 3:26).
w "The
Lord is in His holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before Him."
w "Be
still and know that I am God."
In this world of activity we need to be quiet. Don't rush in and out of God's presence --
give God a chance to speak.
Why we are to wait on God.
ƒ For strength (Isa. 40:31). Rest isn't the only way to renew your
strength. Waiting on the Lord provides
strength for Christian service -- mounting up with wings as eagles is for the
purpose of running and walking here on earth.
The Christian life becomes a weary life and a fainting life apart from
waiting on God. (Psa. 27:13-14a).
ƒ For the needs of the day (Psa.
145:14-15). Before we can go into the
battle we need supplies, ammunition, clothing, etc.
ƒ For counsel (Psalm 106:13). This had been the sin of God's people all
down the ages. Don't think you know
God's will so well that there is no need to wait for His counsel.
For since the beginning of the world men have not heard nor
... seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him. (Isa.
64:4)
