(#27, ?)
Read Heb. 11:24-27.
We sometimes have many things that we could do
without. There are hosts of people who
are doing without the "one thing needful".
Moses and Paul knew what it was to have things that were
not needful. But they gave them all up
that they might have the thing that is needful.
Christ told Martha that "one thing was
needful". What was it? (Luke
10:38-42)
Note 3 things that Moses did...
ƒ He
refused the associations of the King and Egypt.
Egypt was a worldly power.
Moses had a possible chance of becoming King for he was the only
heir. Egypt symbolizes the world. Moses refused. And we cannot afford to consider the world
passively. We must refuse it!
ƒ He
chose to suffer affliction with God's people.
It is the lot of God's people to suffer. Moses chose suffering rather than to enjoy
the pleasures of sin for a season.
Pleasure from sin is only momentary.
And to enjoy the pleasure of sin requires that we desert the people of
God. And to enjoy the pleasure of sin
costs the loss of greater pleasure (Psalm 16:11).
ƒ He
esteemed the reproach of Christ.
No treasure in Egypt could be greater than suffering for
Christ. Moses had respect unto the
recompense of the reward. He considered
the end and found the reward for suffering was worth all the pleasures of sin
(2 Tim. 2:12). Like Paul, Moses gave up
all things that he might have the "one thing needful" (Phil. 3:3-10).
We need Christ -- He is the "One" thing that is
needful.
