(#85)
Read Rom 6:1-11.
The experience of victory assumes there has been
conflict. So it is for the believer:
conflict is part of life (Rom. 7:14-24; Gal 5:17).
The place of victory is "in Christ".
Romans 6, the great victory chapter of the Bible, shows
how union with Christ is involved with victory.
ƒ v3:
"into" Jesus Christ.
ƒ v4:
buried "with" Him.
ƒ v5:
"grafted" into the likeness of His death.
ƒ v6:
crucified "with" Him.
ƒ v8:
"with" Christ.
"He always causes us to triumph" (2 Cor.
2:14). In Him there is victory over the
old creation (2 Cor. 5:17).
The Cross -- the way into Christ and victory.
Through the Cross there is victory...
1. In
reference to sin, 1 Peter 2:24; Rom. 6:6.
2. In
reference to the works of the flesh, Gal. 5:24.
3. In
reference to the world, Gal. 1:3-4; 6:14.
The context of the passage shows that Paul included not
only the world lying in the evil one but the religious world, insofar as the
elements of the world are in it.
1. In
reference to self, Gal. 2:20.
Faith -- that which sustains victory and union with Christ.
Gal 2:20: I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live,
yet not I but Christ lives in me; and the life that I now live I live by the
faith of the Son of God Who loved me and gave Himself for me.
1 John 5:4-5: For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the
world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who
is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of
God?
