Read 1 Samuel 1:9-28.
One of the newest customs that has arisen in America and
one of the finest, is the setting apart of a day to nationally honor our
Mothers. There are certain things which
we can trace in a mother's life which account in some degree for the measure of
blessedness which emanates from her.
These certain things may be found in the life of Hannah, the mother of
Samuel.
She worshiped God with her husband, v3-5.
Not too much emphasis can be placed on worship of God as
Hannah did in the temple. I look back at
my mother and remember her devotion, yieldedness, and worship.
She prayed, v10,27.
w Margret
Luther prayed, and to her son Martin was given such courage that he became the
central figure of the 16th century.
w Mrs.
Wesley prayed and her sons Charles and John became channels of God's grace to
many who were brought into the Kingdom.
w Mrs.
Moody prayed and her son was so filled with the Spirit that he became the
greatest evangelist this country has ever known.
She believed, v18.
"Her countenance was no more sad." She believed God. Timothy's mother had "unfeigned
faith". Sarah had faith God would
give her a son (Hb 11:11). Moses' mother
had faith (Hb 11:23).
She stayed at home, v22.
Home is the backbone of the nation and mother is the
backbone of the home. The character of
the child is molded largely in the home.
(Titus 2:4-5)
She brought her son to the temple, v24.
She didn't send him but went with him.
She gave her son to God, v28.
The mother is an instrument of God. She must be willing to lay everything on the
altar. God can use mothers just as well as he can use ministers, if they are
yielded!
