As we move into Exodus verse-by-verse, I want to change the format a little. The number at the outset of each paragraph is chapter and verse (e.g. 0116 is Ex. 1:16.)
0000, The story of Moses
is another story of amazing “coincidences”, like the story of Joseph in the
later chapters of Genesis. God is in
control. Not me, not Moses. And it’s really good He is in control.
0116, Pharaoh decreed to
kill all the Israelite boys, only to have one end up in his own house. 😊 God, you are like that. You do your supernatural work in the lives of
our children, our family.
0202, “Beautiful.” A word with a wide range of uses. First uses are in Gen. 1:4,10,12,18,21,25,31,
in God’s pronouncements about His creation.
Then Gen. 2:9: the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
0210, In 2:10, Moses
(Mosheh) means drawn, drawing out, rescued. It is of Egyptian origin, accommodated to
Hebrew.
0211, 2:11-12,13,17: This
is what Moses does. He delivers, makes
peace. But of course, at this point, the
LORD is not with him. He is doing this
in his strength.
0221, “content.” Heb. ya al, to make a beginning; to
agree, resolve. Moses is wanting to
settle into a life without fear of Pharaoh and the disappointment of his trying
to be someone great in delivering Israel.
Caring for the sheep in the desert.
That’ll do. For 40 years!
0222, “stranger.” Moses was raised in Egypt, in Pharaoh’s
house. But he knew that is not who he
is! As with Jacob (47:9) he understands
that, though raised in Pharaoh’s house, educated in Egypt, and all things
Egyptian, yet he is a pilgrim, stranger. (Heb. 11:13-16,23-27).
0224, Two things drive
the LORD: the groaning of Israel and His covenant. Compassion and faithfulness. Two marvelous attributes of our God!
0300, The “I will” statements of God in Ex. 3-4 show that He
is the sufficiency of Moses and Israel:
·
3:10: I will send you.
·
3:12: I will be with you.
·
3:17: I will bring you out … into …
·
3:20: I will strike Egypt.
·
3:21: I will give Israel favor with the
Egyptians.
·
4:12: I will be with your mouth.
·
4:15: I will be with your mouth and Aaron’s
mouth and will teach you what you shall do.
·
4:21: I will harden Pharaoh’s heart.
