·
Here’s a clue.
The seventh angel sounds his trumpet in Rev.11:15 and immediately loud
voices in heaven proclaim, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms
of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever.” (Makes you want to sing loudly doesn’t
it!) This mystery has something to do
with the rule and reign of Jesus Christ over all the earth. Other voices (24 elders, heavenly beings)
speak of this event as involving God’s wrath being on angry nations and the
saints being rewarded.
·
Here’s another clue. Eph. 1:9-10 talks about “the mystery of His
will.” It refers to something God
purposed in Himself, and that
something is the gathering together of everything in Christ. It happens in the fullness of times, in other words at the end of time.
·
Here’s a big clue. Psalm 2 is a Song about angry nations (v1-3)
whom God judges in His wrath (v4-6).
Then it says God determines to make His Son ruler over all the nations,
ruling from Zion (Jerusalem, v7-9). The
end of the Song makes sense when it calls us to submit NOW to the Son since He
will eventually have it all.
·
If you don’t have it figured out already, here’s
a little clue. Rev. 19:10 says that “the
testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
All that can be said about the future (prophecy) is driven by the story (testimony) of Jesus,
God’s Son. History is in fact HIS-STORY.
· Here's something else about the mystery. Jesus’ earthly life, His death
on the cross (where He tasted death for everyone, Heb. 2:9) and His
resurrection (where He destroyed the power of death and the power of Satan who
holds that power, Heb. 2:14) are central and foundational and essential to the
Story.
In other words there are several sub-plots to this mystery, but they all
support the one story: that Jesus Christ will be exalted above all! Isn’t this a great story?! You should know, however, that this is not a
novel (fiction) or even a historical novel (a fictional book based in
fact). This story is true through and
through. It is going on now. And your part in the story occupies your life
from birth to death. That is the limited
time available to you to join the Son and to serve Him as King. How did Psalm 3 say it? Kiss
the Son (as you would kiss the hand of a sovereign, showing respect) … trust in Him (v12). When one turns from himself and his pride and
selfishness and bows before Christ in faith he is delivered from the power of
darkness and conveyed into the kingdom of the Son God loves (Col. 1:13). Which side of HIS-story are you on today?
