Read Rom.5:5-8; John 3:16; Eph. 3:17-19; 1 John 4:10.
What is
your conception of God? One Who is angry?
Ready to pounce on us when we sin? Who is cold and hard to be touched? None of this is true. While God is angry with sin, He has revealed a
very wonderful love towards the sinner. One
almost shrinks from attempting to speak on the matchless, unfathomable love of God.
However, we shall not try to fathom God’s
love but will note a few of its wonders as it touches our lives.
v Wonderful when we consider the
object of its bestowal. Though there were
none righteous (Rom. 3:10-11) and nothing in us that caused Him to love us (Deut.
7:7-9), yet He loved sinners (Rom. 5:8).
v Wonderful when we consider its
measure. God loved the world (John
3:16). His love passes knowledge (Eph. 3:19).
v Wonderful when we consider its
cost. It cost the death of the King of Glory
(1 John 4:10). God gave (John 3:16)!
v Wonderful when we consider its
long-suffering. God is not willing that any
should perish (2 Peter 3:9). Yet He keeps
on loving us still.
v Wonderful when we consider it
is unfailing. God is the same yesterday,
today, forever (Heb. 13:8). He will not forget
(Isa. 49:15). He loved His disciples to the
end (John 13:1).
v Wonderful when we consider its
benefits. Eternal life (John 3:16). Sonship (1 John 2:3). Peace with God (Romans 5:1). Reconciliation (Rom. 5:10).
v Wonderful when we consider its
inseparableness (Romans 8:37-39).
God’s love
is typified in 3 pictures in Luke 15. The
lost coin didn’t know it was lost. The lost
sheep knew its lost condition but could not help itself. The lost son was willfully lost. It makes no difference your condition, God’s love
reaches everyone.
Consider: Do I believe God loves me?
Do I love God?
