(#40, ?)
Read 1 Peter 1:13-19; 1 Cor. 6:19-20; 7:23.
Twice in I Corinthians the Holy Spirit speaks of the fact
we are bought with a price. The
Corinthians had drifted into worldliness and needed to be reminded that they
were not their own. Which one of us does
not need the same reminder!
The price of our redemption.
ƒ Not
silver nor gold, nor anything corruptible.
ƒ The
precious (priceless) blood of Jesus.
See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down:
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?
ƒ The
greatness of the price. (Phil. 2:5-8)
This can only be realized by looking at the greatness of
the Son of God. And then it is
impossible for the human mind to fully comprehend it's greatness.
The necessity of a blood redemption.
The blood is being left out of our religion today. A short time ago a certain denomination went
through it's hymnbook and took out all the songs that referred to the
blood.
A man once said to Moody: "I hate your God. He demands blood. I don't believe in such a God. My God is merciful to all."
Sin is a blood disease.
It effects the life, and thus requires a blood cure. Where there is no blood there is no
salvation. (Heb. 9:22; Lev. 17:11)
The object of the blood redemption.
1. Forgiveness
of sins, Eph. 1:7; Col. 1:14.
2. Peace
with God, Col. 1:20; Rom. 5:1.
3. Cleansing,
1 John 1:7.
4. Access
to God, Eph. 2:13; Heb. 10:19.
5. That
God might purchase us as His temples, 1Co6:19-20.
The obligation of a blood redemption.
w Glorify
God, 1 Cor. 6:20.
w We're
not servants of men but of God, 1 Cor 7:23.
w Holy
lives, 1 Peter 1:13-19.
"I gave My life for thee...What hast thou giv'n for
me?"
