· Jer. 2:35: Israel claims innocence, saying surely God will turn away His anger.
· 3:13: Shameless Israel should only acknowledge her iniquity.
· 5:4-5: God says of the “great men,” surely they are poor, foolish. They have altogether broken the yoke and burst the bonds.
· 10:19: Israel’s captivity truly is an infirmity.
· 10:24: O LORD, correct me, but with justice; not in Your anger … How we need God’s correction, but joined with His mercy.
· 12:1: Jeremiah acknowledges God’s righteousness, yet let me talk with You about Your judgments. Jeremiah is always polite, but definite, when he asks God about some aspect of His plan.
· 16:19: The Gentiles shall come to You from the ends of the earth and say, ‘Surely our fathers have inherited lies, worthlessness and unprofitable things.’
· 26:15,24: Jeremiah warns those who threaten his life; surely you will bring innocent blood on yourselves … Nevertheless he was spared.
· 28:7: Jeremiah to Hananiah: Nevertheless hear what I speak.
· 30:11: I will correct you, yet I will not make a complete end of you. (A major, important truth in the prophets.)
· 32:30: Israel and Judah had done only evil before the LORD from their youth.
· 34:4: Yet, Jeremiah says to Zedekiah, You shall not die by the sword.
· Lam. 2:16: Judah’s enemies say, Surely this is the day we have waited for.
· 3:3: Jeremiah says of the LORD, Surely He has turned His hand against me.
· Ezek. 46:17: But the inheritance of the prince belongs to his sons.
· Hos. 4:4: Now (yet) let no man contend, or rebuke another.
· 12:8: Ephraim said, ‘Surely I have become rich, I have found wealth for myself … they shall find in me no iniquity that is sin.
· 12:11: Though Gilead has idols – Surely they are vanity.
· Jonah 2:4: In the fish Jonah says, Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.
· Zeph. 1:18: Nothing will deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealousy.
· 3:7: The LORD says to Israel, ‘Surely you will fear Me, you will receive instruction’ – so that her dwelling would not be cur off.
· Zech. 1:6: Yet surely My words and My statutes, Which I commanded My servants the prophets, Did they not overtake your fathers?
In the Prophets “ak” often speaks of the reality that God prophesied for His people, and which they denied. or which they simply declined to hear. Jesus used this word for this same purpose. In Jn. 3:3, He says “Amen, amen.” 2 Cor. 1:20 says all God’s promises “in Him are Yes … and Amen.” That is the force of “ak.”
