Here, for two posts, is a great study. Eph. 6:10 says: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. “Strong,” “power” and “might” are 3 different Greek terms. How do they go together.
endunamoō: strengthen (passive: to become strong)
· Ac 9:22: Paul kept increasing in strength (v19: physical)
· Ro 4:20: Abraham didn't waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith (passive)
· Eph 6:10: be strong in the Lord (passive)
· Phil 4:13: I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me
· 1Ti 1:12: Paul thanks Christ Jesus who strengthened him
· 2 Tim 2:1: to Tim: be strong in grace that is in Christ Jesus (passive)
· 2 Tim 4:17: the Lord strengthened Paul (physical)
§ Vincent defines “dunamis,” that which is infused in us as Eph. 6:10 calls for, as, Inherent power, miraculous power, or ability. It refers to a dynamic, explosive energy, which is where the English word "dynamite" comes from. It can manifest as miraculous works. In other words, what comes from God is a full dose of power or capability for our lives and ministry.
kratos: power, might; strength, intensity
· Lk 1:51: Mary's song: he has done mighty deeds
· Ac 19:20: at Ephesus word of Lord was growing mightily
· Eph 1:19: God works in us acc. to the strength of his might. (iscos)
· Eph 6:10: be strong in the Lord, in the strength of his might ""
· Col 1:11: God's word strengthens us w/all power acc to his glorious might
· 1Ti 6:16: doxology, to him be honor & eternal dominion
· Hb 2:14: Jesus rendered powerless him who had power of death
· 1Pt 4:11: Christ: to him belongs glory & dominion forever
· 1Pt 5:11: Christ: to him be dominion forever & ever. Amen.
· Jd 25: to God thru Christ be glory, majesty, dominion, authority
· Rev 1:6: Christ: to him be glory & the dominion
· Rv 5:13: to God & Lamb be dominion.
§ This term is only used of God! Vincent’s word studies defines it like this: Dominion or ruling power. It is the power that has dominion over others, suggesting a strong display of force and sovereign authority.
§ So far, in Eph. 6:10, we read: Be strong (capable, able) in the Lord, in the power (ruling power, effectiveness) of His might.
