ischus (noun): strength, power, might

·       Mk.12:30: love Lord your God w/all your strength (Lk.10:27)

·       Mk.12:33: lawyer agrees, love him w/all your strength

·       Eph 1:19: God works in acc. w/strength of his might

·       Eph 6:10: be strong in Lord & power of his might

·       2 Th.1:9: sinner spends eternity away fr. God & glory of his might

·       1 Pt.4:11: who ever serves should do so in strength God provides

·       2 Pt 2:11: angels are greater in might & power (dunamis)

·       Rev. 5:12; 7:12: attributed to God in doxologies

§  Vincent defines this as: Physical strength or might. It refers to a person's inner capacity or physical force. The term is most often used to describe God's immense strength, and only occasionally for human strength. In Eph. 6:10 we are being “enabled” by the “ruling might” of God’s “strength.” 

ischuō (vb): be strong, powerful (most often used of power that is lacking)

·       Mt.5:13: tasteless salt is good for nothing (i.e. w/o power)

·       Mt.8:28: no one could pass by on road by tombs

·       Mt.9:12: those who are well don’t need a physician (Mk.2:17)

·       Mt.26:40: disciples could not keep watch one hour (Mk.14:37)

·       Mk.5:4: no one strong enough to subdue demoniac

·       Mk.9:18: disciples could not cure spirit possessed boy

·       Mk.14:37: Peter could not stay awake to pray with Jesus

·       Lk.6:48: wind, etc. couldn't shake home built on rock

·       Lk.8:43: woman could not be healed of hemorrhage

·       Lk.13:24: many will seek to enter gate & will not be able

·       Lk.14:6: pharisees could not reply

·       Lk.14:29,30: builder makes sure he is able to finish

·       Lk.16:3: steward unable to dig.  Lk.20:26: scribes unable to catch Jesus.

·       Jn.21:6: disciples not able to bring in catch of fish

·       Ac.6:10: Sanhedrin unable to cope w/Stephen's wisdom & Spirit

·       Ac.15:10: law was a yoke the father were unable to bear

·       Ac.19:16: man w/evil spirits overpowered false exorcists

·       Ac 19:20: word of Lord was growing mightily & prevailing

·       Ac.25:7: Jews could not prove charges against Paul

·       Ac 27:16: scarcely able to get boat under control

·       Gal.5:6: neither circumcision or uncircumcision avails anything

·       Phil. 4:13: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me

·       Heb.9:17: covenant not in force while one who makes it lives

·       Jas 5:16: prayer of righteous man can accomplish much

·       Rev 12:8: dragon & angels not strong enough
