Rev. 4, Submission is Fundamental to Worship

Here is a term for worship used frequently in the Gospels, Acts and Revelation and almost never used by Paul.  What do you learn about worship from this?

proskuneo: worship; (to fall down and) worship, to do obeisance, prostrate oneself before, do reverence to, welcome respectfully

·       Mt.2:2,11: wise came to worship Jesus; 2:8: Herod wanted to worship Jesus

·       Mt.4:9f; Lk. 4:7f: Satan sought worship fr. Jesus; worship only the Lord thy God

·       Mt.8:2: leper worships Jesus; 9:18: ruler worships Jesus, both seek healing

·       Mt.14:33: disciples worship Jesus after he walks on water

·       Mt.18:26: owing servant worships master, asks time to pay

·       Mt.20:20: Mrs. Zebedee worships Jesus, asks favor

·       Mt.28:9: 2 women worship Jesus; 28:17: disciples worship Jesus, some doubt

·       Mk.5:6: demoniac worships Jesus; 15:19: guards mockingly worship Jesus

·       Lk.24:52: disciples worship Jesus at ascension

·       Jn.4:20ab,21,22ab,23,24: discussion w/Samaritan woman; fathers w-ed on this mtn, Jews claim we must w in Jerusalem; time coming when you'll w  neither here or in Jerusalem; Samaritans w what they don't know, we w what we know for salvation is of Jews; true worshippers will worship in sp. & truth; we must worship God in spirit & truth

·       Jn 9:38: blind man believes, worships Jesus; 12:20: Greeks worship at feast

·       Ac.7:43: OT Israel worshipped idols; 8:27: Ethiopian worshipped in Jerusalem

·       Ac.10:25: Cornelieus worships Peter. "But I am just a man."

·       Ac.24:11: Paul had worshipped in Jerusalem

·       1 Cor. 14:25: a convicted unbeliever will worship God

·       Heb.11:21: Jacob worshipped when dying

·       Rev.3:9: ch. of Philadelphia to be worshipped by synagogue of Satan

·       Rev.4:10,24: elders worship Lord (also 5:14; 7:11; 11:16; 19:4)

·       Rev.7:11: angels, creatures, elders worship Lord (also 19:4)

·       Rev.9:20: wicked worship demons; 11:1: worship in temple

·       Rev. 13:4,12: worship of the dragon, beast (also 13:15; 14:11; 16:2; 19:20)

·       Rev.14:7: angels demand worship for God; 15:4: all nations worship Lord

·       Rev.19:10ab: John worships angel, then directed to worship God (also 22:8,9)

·       Rev.20:4: reward for those who did not worship beast.

This term emphasizes bowing.  Submission is fundamental to worship.  And Revelation is all about worship: false and true!
