Col.3:2 (KJV): Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."
· Versions:
1. NASV, NKJV: set your mind 2.Williams: practice occupying your minds
3. Beck: keep your mind 4. REV: set your minds
5. Phillips: give your heart 6. NEB: let your thoughts dwell
· Concordance Study: this is the only time this term is translated this way. In Greek, "to mind, think". Seems to be a broader term than just thoughts. It is definitely not affections for it refers not to emotions but to the mind, something intellectual. mind is thus the proper term applied to harmony; our thoughts are not to be exactly the same, but our general intellectual attitude is to be unified.
· Vincent: "be minded", "think", "set your mind." "Seek" marks the practical striving; "set your mind" the inward impulse and disposition. III, 501
· Vine: "set your mind on". To think, implying moral interest & reflection.
· Interpretation: This verse does not appeal to our feelings but follows the Biblical pattern zeroing in on the mind. But it is not just thinking in terms of ABCs. It is a general mindset. It would seem to involve affections
