Isaiah 63:7-14, Love Never Fails (2)

LOVE NEVER FAILS
In the Old Testament there is no greater illustration of Love that never Fails than in God's dealings with Israel.
a)   Seen in God's dealings with Israel.
i)     Review the history...from the bondage fires of Egypt God brought Israel out, established a relationship with them at Sinai as His treasured people, cared for them for 40 years in the desert until He brought them into the promised land, a wonderful land.  Throughout Israel’s history she regularly turned away from God, only to return after experiencing hard times of chastening.  Eventually the nation became two nations with each being carried off into captivity because of their idolatry.  At this time …
ii)    What did God tell Israel in Jer. 31:3:

iii)  How did God see His relationship with Israel in Isa 63:7-14:

One of the greatest passages on God’s unfailing (everlasting) love for his rebellious people is in the story of Hosea and Gomer.
iv)  Hosea 1-3
(1) What did God command His prophet Hosea to do? (1:1-3)

(2) God commanded the names for the three children born to Hosea and Gomer.  What did these names signify? (1:4-9)

(3) Through these names was God announcing the end of His special relationship with Israel? (1:10-11)

(4) This hope is not naive; it is based on the love of God who will cleanse the prostitute-wife (God saves for righteousness).  How does God do this? (2:1-13)

(5) Amazingly, what does God do next? (2:14-23)

(6) To illustrate God’s unfailing love for Israel He then commands Hosea to retrieve his adulterous wife (3:1-5).
2)  Application:
a)   Memorize Jeremiah 31:3
b)   For meditation and application use the passages listed under "love" and "faithfulness" (the marriage of Emmet and Checed).
