Read Isaiah 40:18-26
As we continue to consider evidence that the
Bible is, in fact, and in complete uniqueness, the Word of God, it is likely
that our brief consideration of various evidences may seem incomplete. It is true that these are not full
discussions; and any frustration in that way will likely surface in this next
matter. If it all encourages you to
further examination it is good, from my point of view. What we are saying is that the Bible can
stand up to fair, factual scrutiny.
IX. The
Bible is scientifically accurate. We
often hear that such an ancient book cannot stand up to the tremendous growth
in scientific knowledge of the 20th and 21st
centuries. But that is not the
case. There are many sources available
(I happen to like most of what comes from the Institute for Creation Research but there are other great
resources). In outline form I would ask
you to consider a couple of things you may not have thought of before.
·
The Bible affirms truths that it took a while
for science to come to:
o The
existence of dinosaurs. Read Job
40:15-24 and Job 41 where God describes just such animals. Job is considered to be the oldest book in
the Bible, describing a time before the time of Noah and the flood.
o The
classification of the species. Genesis
1-2 (the creation story) contains a special phrase, after their kind, to describe what we know to be the case. Dogs beget dogs; oak trees produce more oak
trees.
o The
involvement of water in fossil formation.
The story of the world-wide flood, in Gen. 6-9, which is referenced in
other ancient traditions, explains a lot of what science is finding today.
o The
fact of an orderly fossil record with occasional turbulence. The Bible explains creation that is uniform because the Creator built into
it what we call laws of nature. Yet it explains the exceptions because it
describes a Creation in turmoil since the events of Genesis 3.

The Bible answers questions that science cannot
answer:
o How
something came from nothing. Mankind
cannot get past the question of how there could have been truly nothing before
there was something. The Bible
throughout (i.e. not just in Gen. 1-2) assumes a wise, powerful and good
Creator.
o The
origin of time, space and matter. Again,
the fact of a omnipotent Creator gives us a reasonable answer to the origin of
all things. If you stop and think about
it, these three issues that are given in Gen. 1:1 (time: in the beginning; space: heaven
and matter: earth) defy explanation
by science which can never get back to the beginning. Science depends on experimentation; and when
you arrive at the beginning there is nothing there for an experiment.
Consider this, friend. The Bible is unique; it endures the test of
time!
