Read 1 Peter 1:10-12,22-2:3
Let us conclude our thoughts on the Bible’s
durability. In terms of the way it has
survived criticism the following I
found to be quite true and encouraging.
Century follows century - There it stands.
Empires rise & fall & are forgotten - There it stands.
Dynasty succeeds dynasty - There it stands.
Kings are crowned & uncrowned - There it stands.
Despised & torn to pieces - There it stands.
Storms of hate swirl about it -- There it stands.
Agnostics smile cynically - There it stands.
Profane, prayerless punsters caricature it - There it stands.
Unbelief abandons it - There it stands.
Thunderbolts of wrath smite it - There it stands.
The flames are kindled about it - There it stands.
The arrows of hate are discharged against it - There it stands.
Radicalism rants & raves against it - There it stands.
Fogs of sophistry conceal it temporarily - There it stands.
The tooth of time gnaws, but makes no dent - There it stands.
Modernism tries to explain it away - There it stands.
An anvil that has broken a million hammers - There it stands.

Today continues to provide testimony to the
Bible’s durability. It thrives in terms
of copies printed as well as in the myriad of languages into which it has been
and is being translated. No other holy book matches the Bible in
durability!
VI. The
Bible has a unique unity. The Koran
claims to have unity (i.e. a consistent
and uniform message) because the angel Gabriel dictated the entire book to
Mohammed (who, interestingly enough, could neither read nor write). The Bible demonstrates unity of message even
though it was written by over 40 human authors and over 2000 years.
·
The Bible’s unity is seen in its theme, the
redemption of mankind. Redemption was
first promised when it was first needed, in the early chapters of the first
book (Gen. 3:15). That promise of the
Creator became the unifying story throughout the Bible.
·
The Bible’s unity is seen in the Person of the
Bible, the Lord Jesus Christ. That first
promise in Gen. 3:15 was the promise of a Savior. Jesus would be that Savior. In the Old Testament His coming was
predicted; in the New Testament it was recorded and its implications explained.
The Bible is truly unique, a uniqueness many
miss because they do not read or study it.
I hope you are encouraged to take up this amazing Book.
