Read Hebrews 1:1-4; 3:1-6
IV. The
Bible has a unique and superior Subject, the Man Christ Jesus who was God, come
to earth in the flesh, to live among us and to die for our sins. Jesus is far superior to any other “holy men”
in other supposed “holy books.”
·
Joseph Smith, who received the translation of
the Book of Mormon, ultimately gave his
life for writings he knew to be a hoax.
His life was one of immorality; being an adulterer and leaving behind
over 30 wives.
·
Mohammed, the Prophet of Islam and the Koran,
also was an immoral and cruel man, known for killing many innocents and abusing
women.
·
We should also note the superiority of Jesus
Christ to Moses, who is at the center of the Jewish religion and the Tanakh, what Christians call the Old Testament. Moses was a great man of great character and
integrity. The Letter to the Hebrews in the New Testament argues that Jesus is
superior to Moses and all others. In the
case of these men of Israel, Christ’s superiority has to do with the salvation
that is provided through Him.
Jesus is uniquely remarkable. Consider these words …
Phillip Schaff, Church historian: "this
Jesus of Nazareth, without money & arms, conquered more millions than
Alexander, Caesar, Mohammed & Napoleon; without science & learning, He
shed more light on things human & divine than all philosophers &
scholars combined; without the eloquence of schools, He spoke such words of
life as were never spoken before or since & produced effects which lie
beyond the reach of orator or poet; without writing a single line, He set more
pens in motion, & furnished themes for more sermons, orations, discussions,
learned volumes, works of art, & songs of praise, than the whole army of
great men of ancient & modern times."
And
again …
From Bernard Ramm: If God became a man we
would expect …
ü His human life to
be sinless.
ü Him to be holy.
ü His words to be
the greatest words ever spoken.
ü Him to exert a
profound power over human personality.
ü Supernatural
doings (being God alone would involve some tokens of the supernatural;
certainly God "owes" it to man that there is no possible mistake at
such a tremendous point).
ü Him to manifest
the love of God.
ü Him to be the most
divine (God-centered) man who ever lived.
ü His personality to
be true humanity.
This uniqueness and superiority of Jesus is a
major point with respect to the uniqueness and superiority of the Bible,
evidence that it is truly God’s Word!
