The return of Jesus Christ is the revelation of …
v The
One from heaven (v11). One of Jesus’
ways of stating His deity was as the One
from heaven (John 3:13,31; 8:23-24).
As was true for redemption in His first coming, so the time of regeneration of all things (Matt. 19:28)
in His second coming requires a visitation of heaven. Christ has been waiting at His Father’s right
hand (Heb. 1:3; Psalm 110:1), making intercession for believers (Rom. 8:34),
preparing a place for His Bride to be with Him (John 14:1-4; Eph. 5:25-27). This
same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner
as you saw Him go into heaven (Ac. 1:11).
v The
Victorious Conqueror (v11,12). When
Jesus first came He had offered Himself as King when He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey
(Matt. 21:5; Zech. 9:9). In His return
He rides as conqueror on the mighty, white war horse. The pretentious antichrist on his white horse
(Rev. 6:2) will be destroyed by the One on whose head are many crowns!
v The
One who is called Faithful and True (v11).
These are the perfections of God (Isa. 25:1). His first coming was the fulfillment of many
promises in the Old Testament. But many
of those promises had aspects that were yet unfulfilled. One of the most well-known was from Isa.
61:1-3. Jesus had read half of that
prophecy in the synagogue in Nazareth, the part fulfilled in His first coming
(Luke 4:18-19). But the last half of the
prophecy was not read because it would not be fulfilled until He returns. Remember, brothers and sisters in Christ, our
Lord has revealed Himself to us in the same way, as the One who is faithful and
true (Rev. 3:7,14). You can, you must,
trust Him.
v The
righteous Judge (v11,12,15). All
judgment has been given to the Son (John 5:22-23,26-27). He judges righteously because He seeks not
His own but the will of His Father (John 5:30) according to His word (John
12:47-48), the sword that comes from His mouth.
His judgment is righteous because His eyes, like flames of fire, penetrate
to the hearts of those He judges. He is
the Judge of the nations as pictured in Matt. 25:31-46 where He separates the
sheep and the goats on the basis of their treatment of His brethren, the redeemed nation of Israel.
v The
mysterious One (v12). True to His nature
as the incomprehensible God, we find that in His revelation there is still
truth about Christ that is not
revealed. We can obviously say very
little about this except to bow before Him in worship as the great I AM!
What a wonderful hope we have that our Lord
will return in power and great glory.
Tomorrow we will continue to see Him in His revelation. But we are already filled with awe in our
King in waiting! Worship Him in the
beauty of holiness.
