Read Matthew 28.
3 crosses outline the hills. The Son of God is dead. Joseph asks for the body. The tomb
is secure. The hope of the disciples is gone. But 3 days later Christ appeared.
ƒ The
fact of His resurrection.
3 facts: he died, was buried, but the tomb was empty. How did the tomb come to be empty? 2 options are possible:
1. He
was taken away by human hands. But his
enemies would not have done this; and his friends could not for the tomb was
guarded.
2. Jesus
arose from the dead.
w Proofs
that, in fact, Jesus arose from the dead, include:
3. The
empty tomb. This must be satisfactorily
explained, and it is only explained by the resurrection.
4. The
testimony of His friends.
5. The
testimony of His enemies, such as the soldiers (v11).
ƒ The
effect of the resurrection of Christ.
w Immortality
(1 Cor. 15:54). Death conquered and life
was given. Job's question, "If a
man die shall he live again?", found it's answer in the resurrection.
w The
changed body of Christ (1 Cor. 15:35-42). It was not a spiritual body (v44), an
incorruptible body (v53), a powerful body (v43). Our bodies too shall be changed, Phil. 3:21.
w We
have a High Priest, Heb. 7:25. The veil
in the temple was rent when Christ died.
When He told Mary not to touch him, He still needed to go to the Father
to present His offering. He came back
demonstrating that God accepted the sacrifice.
He now ever lives to make intercession for us.
w Newness
of life, Rom. 6:4. His resurrection
effects our daily walk. 50 times in the
NT Christ's resurrection is linked to Christian living (e.g. Col. 3:1).
ƒ Knowing
the power of Christ's resurrection (Phil. 3:10) we...
1. Experience
the new life in Christ, 2 Cor. 5:17.
2. Know
the hope of everlasting life, 1 Pt. 1:3.
3. Are
justified, Rom. 4:25
The most distressing thing about the resurrection is that
thousands believe that Christ arose but have no realization of the living
Christ.
