The Three Facts of Sin

(#63, Imperial, 1954, 1960)
Read Psalm 103:3-4.
A distinguished Methodist preacher in Australia preached on sin.  One of his church officers said, "We don't want you to talk so plain about sin; the boys and girls might hear you and become sinners more easily.  Just call it a mistake."  The minister took a bottle marked poison.  "I see what you want," he said, "you want me to change the label."

The Guilt of Sin.
"Who forgives all thine iniquities."
The fact that all men are sinners must be admitted by all.  It is clearly stated in Scripture: Rom. 3:10-12,19; 5:12; 1 John 1:8.
A British officer once took a drop of supposed holy and pure water from the River Ganges in India and showed it to a Brahmin priest through the powerful lens of his microscope.  The old fellow was horrified that even the sacred water from the Ganges was so polluted.
We must look at the heart through the microscope of God's Word and we will see the pollution of "guilt".

The Stain of Sin.
"Who healeth all thy diseases."
Nothing in this world works without friction.  A mountain stream digs a glen; the sea cuts a beach; a hurricane leaves a thousand fallen witnesses.  And the great river of sin leaves heaps of ruins.
History is an undying monument to sin.  The stain of sin ... is the concern of philanthropy, is the business of Congress, and it troubles the whole human race.

The Power of Sin.
"Who redeemeth thy life from destruction."
Sin has power to ...
ƒ    Deaden our understanding (Rom. 1:21; Eph. 4:18-19).
ƒ    Separate man from God (Isa. 59:2).
ƒ    Destroy life (Rom. 6:23).

Note these 3 simple facts of salvation.
w   He forgives, Eph. 1:7.
w   He heals, 1Peter 2:24.
w   He redeems, Eph. 1:7.

Without a Scriptural conception of sin we cannot have a Scriptural conception of salvation.
