Fellowship with God

(#59, Radio, Aug. 1949; Hinkley, 1953)
Read Genesis 5:22,24; 1 John 1:3.
God created man for fellowship with Him.  Thus one lesson Christians must learn is the absolute necessity of DAILY fellowship with God.

The meaning of fellowship with God.
"Enoch walked with God."  This means...
ƒ    He had to go the way God was going.  God chose the way and Enoch walked with Him.
ƒ    He had to walk just as fast and no faster than God walked.  Many run ahead of God.  Many are not willing to wait on God.  Sometimes it means we must "stand still" (Ex. 14:10-13).
ƒ    He had to agree with God.  "Can two walk together, except they be agreed?" (Amos 3:3)

The secrets of a daily fellowship.
    1.  The inner chamber is essential to fellowship with God (Matt. 6:6).  This is a quiet place, a private place, free from interruption or distraction.
    2.  The Word of God is essential to fellowship with God (Matt. 4:4; Psalm 1:1-2).  This is the means by which God speaks to us.
    3.  Love for God is essential to fellowship with God (John 15:9).  Conversation between friends depends on their love for each other.
    4.  Confession of sin is essential to fellowship with God (1 John 1:9).  Apart from this the friendship has no integrity.

The hindrances to fellowship with God.
ƒ    The carnal mind of flesh is a hindrance to fellowship with God.  "The carnal mind is enmity against God" (Ron 8:7).  Thus it works against fellowship with God.
ƒ    Sin is a hindrance to fellowship with God.  Walking in darkness (sin) is to be out of fellowship with God, Who is Light (1 John 1:5-6).

Jesus calls all men to this life of fellowship when He urges us to "Come unto Me" (Matt. 11:28-30).

Walking with God pleases God (Heb. 11:5).
