Claiming the Victory (for 10/14/14)

(#917, Imperial, 1962)

Read Joshua 6.
Our Jerichos.

The Christian that comes through the wilderness into the land of full salvation discovers to his amazement that immediately Jericho confronts him.  Let no Christian think that when we are saved that we are now free from the wiles of Satan.  You will find Satan not only in Egypt and the Wilderness but also in Canaan.

Jericho may be...

    1.  A force within -- a weakness of temperament -- a besetting sin.

    2.  A force without -- in impossible family situation, circumstances that are difficult.

There always seems to be some Jericho between you and the Will of God.

How Jericho was conquered.

ƒ      It was not conquered by human methods.  Walking around the city wasn't what brought the walls down.  Remember that our weapons are not carnal or earthly (2 Cor. 10:3-4).

ƒ      It was conquered by faith (Heb. 11:20).  God walked around Jericho (v11).  Why did God have them walk around the city 13 times?  Someone has said,

God gave them 13 big long looks at the enemy so they would realize they were no match for the enemy behind those walls.

The most difficult thing in the Christian life is to admit that victory is too big for us.  God must bring it about.

This faith that brought down the walls was evidenced by their obedience.

ƒ      The Lord hath given you the city (v16).  Again we see that God was in the midst.  11 times in this chapter the Ark is mentioned.

The answer to all our Jerichos is GOD - the Supernatural One.
