Gen. 17:1; 21:1-2; Gal. 4:4-6, From Abraham to Moses

Terah, the father of Abraham, is said to have begotten Abram, Nahor and Haran at the age of 70.  The record spoke in a similar manner of Noah and the birth of his three sons (Gen. 5:32).  It may mean the three were born around that time, or that the first or last was born then.  Understanding that we might be off a few years, we will assume that the oldest, Abram, was born when Terah was 70, 1878 years after the creation of Adam and Eve.  According to Usher’s chronology of creation being in 4004 BC, Abram would have been born in 2126 BC.

Perhaps, after these posts dealing with dates, you may think that this is not such an important subject.  Ah, but if you think that, you are wrong.  Time, people, places and events are all essential to the story of salvation in the Bible.  Real history precedes the coming of Christ; His life is a real life lived by a True Man; and He will return in a real event at a real time of God’s choosing.  History MATTERS in the Bible.  The history recorded in the Bible is as inspired and trustworthy as the doctrine.
