(#93)
Read Eph. 5:8-17.
Lord Tennyson was one day walking with a group of friends,
when one of them asked him, 'What is Christ to you?' Pointing to a clump of violets by the side of
the path he gave instant testimony by saying, 'What the Sun is to those
violets, Jesus Christ is to my life.'
The natural man and light. Eph. 5:8.
The natural man is in darkness.
w Col
1:13: the dominion of darkness where Satan rules.
w John
3:19: men love darkness.
w John
8:12: the unbeliever is in darkness.
w John
12:46: the unbeliever abides in darkness.
The believer and light. Eph. 5:8-11.
ƒ The
source, Eph. 5:8. "Light in the
Lord." Christ is the source and we
have access by union with Him.
'Ye in me" must always preceed 'I in you'. 'Ye in me' signifies position, while 'I in
you' denotes possession. We cannot have
possession until we have position. 1Jn 1:5-6.
ƒ The
result of walking in Light.
1. Fruit,
Eph. 5:9.
2. Fellowship,
1 John 1:7.
3. Forgiveness,
1 John 1:7.
ƒ The
place of the cross.
w Union
with Christ demands a working of the cross in our lives (Eph. 5:8).
w It
takes a continual working of the cross (Eph. 5:11). One of the most deplorable things today is to
see Christians having fellowship in the works of darkness.
w Christ
was victorious over the powers of darkness (Col 2:15)
w The
walk of light is a constant warfare (Rom. 12:13; Eph. 6:12).
Conclusion ... Eph. 5:14-17.
Light in Christ is for a purpose: to be given out. (2 Cor 4:4-6)
