Continuing to see Christ in the Psalms and in the Prophets.
· Ps. 81:16: With honey from the rock I would have satisfied you. Satisfaction is found only in Christ.
· Ps. 89:26,43: This Psalm is about David with whom God made a covenant. You are … the rock of my salvation. God had turned back the edge of Israel’s sword, not sustaining them in battle. Failure to trust God took away Israel’s advantage in battle.
· Ps. 92:15; 94:22: The LORD is my rock … He is the rock of my refuge.
· Ps. 95:1: Make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
· Ps. 105:41 & 114:8 speak of water from the rock in Exodus.
· Ps. 144:1: Blessed be the LORD my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle. That is, of course, our LORD, making disciples.
· Prov. 30:19: One thing too wonderful for me: The way of a serpent on a rock.
· Isa. 2:10,19,21: These all speak of the rocks as places where Israel will hide in time of judgment.
· Isa. 8:14: The LORD would be a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense to Israel. (This is Christ: Luk 2:34; Rom 9:32,33; Rom 11:9-11,35; 1Pe 2:8). In Isa. 28:16 twice the word “stone” is “eben,” which is Christ (Mk. 12:10).
· Isa. 10:26: The Assyrians to be destroyed like the Midianites at the rock of Oreb.
· Isa. 17:10: Israel had forgotten the God of your salvation, And … not been mindful of the Rock of your stronghold.
· Isa. 26:4: The LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.
· Isa. 30:29: Come to the mountain of the LORD, the mighty one of Israel.
· Isa. 44:8: Is there a God besides Me? … there is no other Rock; I know not one.
· Isa. 48:21 speaks of water from the rock in Exodus.
· Isa. 51:1: Listen to Me, you who follow after righteousness, You who seek the LORD: Look to the rock from which you were hewn.
· Jer. 18:14; 21:13: These speak of water coming from the “rock of the field” and the Lord being against “the inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain.”
· Nahum 1:6: In judgment the rocks are thrown down by Him.
· Hab. 1:12: The prophet is speaking of the Babylonians, whom God is planning to use to judge Israel, even though O LORD, You have appointed them for judgment; O Rock, You have marked them for correction.
There are numerous references to our God as Rock, and to the false gods as rock. This term speaks to Israel and to us in the OT of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is not other rock but the Lord Jesus Christ. That Rock was Christ!
