1 Pet. 2:13-25, Submission in Relationships (1)

We are born with a nature that wants to do what it wants to do, what is right in its own eyes (Jud. 21:25), following the dictates of our evil hearts (Jer. 11:8).  We are called to submit to Christ (Mk. 8:34-38) which includes submission in a variety of relationships.  Meditate on the following; we will common in the next post.

hupotassō (v): to be subject, subordinate

·       Lk.2:51: Jesus was subject to his parents

·       Lk.10:17: demons were subject to disciples

·       Lk.10:20: be glad 1st for salvation, not subjection of demons

·       Rom.8:7: fleshly mind not able to be subject to God's law

·       Rom.8:20: the creator subjected creation to futility

·       Rom.10:3: Jews, tho zealous, did not subject selves to the righteousness of God

·       Rom.13:1: we are to be subject to governing authorities

·       Rom.13:5: we are to be subject bec. gov't can punish & bec. of our conscience

·       1 Cor. 14:32: spirits of prophets are subject to prophets

·       1 Cor. 14:34: women in church are to subject themselves

·       1 Cor 15:27: all things (except God) are subject to Christ, God has done this

·       1 Cor. 15:28: when all things subject, then Son subjected, so God is all in all

·       1 Cor. 16:16: be subject to devoted, hard working church men

·       Eph 1:22: God put all things in subjection to Christ

·       Eph.5:21: be subject to one another in fear of God

·       Eph.5:24: wives subject to husbands as Church subject to Christ

·       Phil 3:21: Christ will subject all things to himself

·       Col 3:18: wives, be subject to husbands, as fitting in the Lord

·       Tit 2:5: wives are to be subject to husbands

·       Tit 2:9: slaves subject to masters in all things

·       Tit 3:1: be subject to rulers, authorities

·       Heb.2:5: world to come is not subject to angels (but to man)

·       Heb. 2:8: all things are subject to Christ; but we do not see this yet

·       Heb. 12:9: having had earthly fathers to discipline us we are trained to be subject to our Heavenly Father

·       Jas 4:7: submit to God bec. he gives grace to humble

·       1 Pet.2:13: for Lord's sake, submit to every institution

·       1 Pet 2:18: servants submit to masters, both good & bad ones

·       1 Pet 3:1: wives be submissive to husbands to win them by your behavior

·       1 Pet 3:5: OT women adorned selves w/submission to husbands

·       1 Pet 3:22: Christ entered heaven after angels, etc were subjected to him

·       1 Pet 5:5: younger men be subject to older
