Matt. 5:21-26, Offerings are Gifts

doreomai: to give, present, bestow something to someone

·       Mark 15:45 Pilate gave the body to Joseph.

·       2 Pet 1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life, godliness

dorema: gift, present

·       Rom 5:16 Again, the gift of God is not like result of the one man's sin: ...the gift (understood) followed many trespasses and brought justification.

·       James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above

doron: gift, present

·       Mat 2:11 Opened treasures, presented him with gifts of gold, incense,  myrrh.

·       Mat 5:23 If you offer a gift & remember your bro has something against you,

·       Mat 5:24 leave your gift in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled

·       Mat 8:4 Show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded

·       Mat 15:5 You say: The help you might have received from me is a gift to God,'

·       Mat 23:18 You say, ...but if anyone swears by gift on it, he is bound by oath.'

·       Mat 23:19 Blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or altar that makes gift sacred?

·       Mark 7:11 Corban' (that is, a gift devoted to God),

·       Luke 21:1 Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury.

·       Luke 21:4 All gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty

·       Eph 2:8 Saved by grace, thru faith--not from yourselves, it is the gift of God

·       Heb 5:1 HP is appointed to represent them, to offer gifts, sacrifices for sins.

·       Heb 8:3 Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices,

·       Heb 8:4 There are already men who offer the gifts prescribed by the law.

·       Heb 9:9 Illus. indicating the gifts, sacrifices were not able to clear conscience

·       Rev 11:10 Earthlings to gloat, celebrate by sending each other gifts

Basically: the doron group of "gift" words is not used of Spiritual gifts, rather of the gift of salvation & contributions-offerings.  The last word above is, with only two exceptions, used of a “religious gift” or “offering.”  That is interesting in that Eph. 2:8 uses this term: salvation is a gift of God.  Do we consider our gifts and offerings to be freely given, no strings attached?  Giving at the temple was far too often a “strings attached” act, meaning it was not a gift.  God is the giver of every good and perfect gift!
