Israel’s history as a Nation began at Mt. Sinai when they made a covenant with the LORD to be His treasured people. The roots of Israel are in the Patriarchs (especially Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) and in the exodus from Egypt.
There are
descriptions of the land in Josh. 1:4; 10:40; 11:16-17; 12:1,7-8. Key verses for Joshua include:
·
1:3: Every place that the sole of your foot
will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.
·
1:8: This Book of the Law shall not depart
from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may
observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous,
and then you will have good success. 9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and
of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is
with you wherever you go.
·
24:15: And if it seems evil to you to serve
the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods
which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods
of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.
But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
