a. Global
pestilence.
i.
Famine, Matt. 24:7; Rev. 6:5-6
1. Famine
in the horn of Africa: a dozen people a day were dying with over 10 million
being affected.
ii.
Pestilence, Rev. 6:7-8
1. The
AIDS epidemic continued unabated in S. Africa and Zimbabwe. Ten of forty million in SA will die in ten
years.
2. There
were significant floods in the United Kingdom, Mozambique. There were tornados in Georgia; there was
record cold in the USA; and hurricane Keith brought great suffering to Belize.
iii.
Earthquakes, Matt. 24:7
1. Earthquakes
in 2000 were not necessarily seen to be on the rise although it could be said
that earthquakes continue to be a significant part of earth’s day-to-day
routine.
2. In
2000 there were 16 magnitude 7 or higher EQs; in 1999 there were 23. There are
5 per day on earth of magnitude 4.0 or higher, with a yearly average of 7,139.
iv.
Tossing of the sea, Luke 21:25
(The
issue is that in fallen creation
there are countless things beyond the control of man. Man prides himself on the ability to recover
from these kinds of events after the fact; but he is not able to prevent or
even limit their frequency or strength.
b. Disturbances
in the sky, Rev. 6:12-17; Joel 2:30-31.
Writing
in 2018 the big to-do a couple years ago about red moon occurrences is interesting. We said then, and after the fact it is clear,
that a red moon is not what the Bible
predicts. These disturbances do not give
advance warning (as in months or years) but immediate
warning that something is now going to happen. And these events are not normal as a red moon;
these disturbances are extremely abnormal.
There will be no question when they happen that they fit the Bible’s
prophecies.
