Read 1 John 3:1-3; Rom. 5:6-11.
What is your concept of God? One who is angry? ready to pounce on us when
we sin? One who is cold and hard to
reach? One almost shrinks from attempting to speak on the subject of God's
love. However it is well for us to
consider this wonderful subject for it helps us to see all else in its true
perspective. All that we have and enjoy
is because of God's love for us.
What manner of love, 1 John 3:1.
God's love is different from every idea of love (Rom.
5:5-8).
w Human
love probably would not die for a righteous man, though for a good (kind,
benevolent) man some might die. The pinnacle of man's love is that he die for
his friend (Jn. 15:13).
w But
God commended His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. He died for the enemy!
The dimensions of God's love, Eph. 3:17-19.
You cannot really measure God's love, but 4 words suggest
it's dimensions...
1. Breadth. John 3:16 says "whosoever".
2. Length.
Jer. 31:3 says it is "everlasting".
3. Depth.
He even loved "me" (Gal. 2:20).
4. Height.
Eph. 2:6 says we are love "in Him".
The results of the bestowal of God's love.
ƒ We
shall be saved from wrath, Rom. 5:9-10.
ƒ We
are the children of God, 1 John 3:1. God
brings us into the family circle. What
closer place could we have? What closer
relationship could be ours? Now are we
children. This is no speculation or
wishful hoping; there is no question or doubt.
ƒ The
future is assured, 1 John 3:2. We shall
be like Him.
