Let us further consider
"the mystery of His will". Certainly this mystery
involves but is more than, the Church, the Body of Christ. In this
passage (1:9-10) Paul has the "big picture" in mind. It is the
mystery which will be fulfilled in the "fullness of times" that
involves the gathering "together in one all things in Christ, both which
are in heaven and which are on earth." Though “hidden in God" (Eph.
3:9) it’s current unveiling will cause the rulers to see His wisdom by the
church (3:10) "according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in
Christ Jesus our Lord" (3:11).
This
"mystery" involves a promise to His Son made before time began (Psalm
2.) Let us consider a few of many references to this promise in Scripture.
·
Psa. 2:6-9: God decreed that His Son would inherit
the nations and rule over them. This
would involve His rule on the throne in Zion (Jerusalem).
·
Psalm 110:1-2: Christ’s session at God’s right
hand is a time where He is waiting for His Father’s fulfillment of this
promise.
·
Daniel 2:44-45: This involves the “stone cut out
without hands”, the end time kingdom, which will dominate all other kingdoms.
·
Daniel 7:13-14: This is the eternal kingdom that
will not be destroyed, given to Messiah by the “Ancient of Days.”
·
Heb. 1:1-5: Christ, appointed heir of all
things, has a better inheritance and name than the angels. His position as creator and sustainer, as God
in the flesh, and as the Purger of sins, tells of His exaltation by His Father.
·
Matthew 28:16-20: After His death and triumphal
resurrection, Christ could say “all authority is given unto Me.” He is in the place of authority (Eph. 1:20-23)
but we do not yet see Him ruling all His enemies (Heb. 2:8-9).
·
Rev. 1:1: This is why the Father gave the “Revelation”
to His Son, so He could show it to His servants.
·
Rev. 10:7: The mystery will be completed by the
end of the tribulation period when Christ defeats the nations at Armageddon and
assumes the throne of David. He will
then be married to His bride (the Church, Rev. 19:1-10) and He will rule as
King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Rev. 19:11-21).
If
this seems like a lot of Scripture remember that it is only the beginning. As you read through the Scriptures you will
see this. The question for today is,
have I bowed before the Lord Jesus Christ, confessing Him as Lord. Every knee will bow (Phil. 2:9-11). It is the privilege of believers today to
cease being enemies and to become willing subjects!
