Let
us now meditate on ways in which Isaac reveals Christ as well as the way
Rebekah reminds us of the Church, His bride.
· Isaac waited for his father, through the servant, to
find his bride (24:63). Isaac went about
his daily work all as he eagerly awaited his bride. So the Lord Jesus Christ is seated at the
right hand of His Father, waiting as His Father, by the Holy Spirit, gathers
His Bride for presentation at the proper time (Psa. 110:1). Christ goes about His work of intercession for
the believers (Rom. 8:34), all the while waiting for that day when the Bride
will be given to Him at the great Marriage Supper (Rev. 19:7).
· Isaac loved his bride (24:67). What a wonderful thought: the Lord Jesus has
loved His Bride as well (Eph. 5:25-27).
He gave Himself for her to present her as a beautiful wife.
· Isaac’s bride had to make a choice of faith, leaving
all (24:58). She had to forget her father’s family and be joined
to her husband (Ps. 45:10). So the Bride
of Christ by faith turns her back on all others that she might be truly devoted
to her Head. Note the Apostle Paul’s
concern with this complete devotion in 2 Cor. 11:1-4.
· Isaac’s bride journeyed through the desert to come to
him (24:61f). It’s a simple thought. The Bride of Christ is made beautiful through
a difficult journey of trials (Acts 14:21-22).
She is sent into a world that is not her home to prove the genuineness
of her faith as she waits to meet her Savior and Head (1 Peter 1:6-7).
· Isaac’s bride loved him before seeing him (24:58, 64-65). Rebekah made a choice, convinced that God was
in it, even before she knew Isaac. Pater
said that though we do not see Christ now, yet we rejoice in Him with
unspeakable joy (1 Pt. 1:8-9).
· Isaac’s bride shared in Isaac’s glory (24:67). Rebekah would never have been known on the
pages of history UNTIL she married Isaac.
In that role she would be a key figure in the line of the Messiah. So
it is for Christ’s Bride. He shares His
glory with His Bride by virtue of the Bride’s union with Him (John
17:22-23). Christ in us (the Bride) is
the hope of glory. How amazing that
people who, for the most part, are insignificant in this world (1 Co. 1:26-31) are lifted to eternal glory in Christ! Give Him praise. Be devoted to your Head.
