She Hath Done What She Could

(#751, Imperial 1962)
Read Mark 14:3-9.

We have before us this morning a lasting record of what worship really is.

Mary came not...
w     To hear a sermon, although the greatest of teachers was there.
w     To sit at His feet, blessed as that was in it's place.
w     To make known her request, as at Lazarus' death.
w     To meet the saints.
w     To be refreshed after a week of toil.

Mary came to worship!
w     To pour out what she had long treasured up upon the One whom she loved.
w     Her eye was on Him.
w     Adoration, homage and blessing was her one thought.
w     Her whole vision was filled with Him.

This is true worship.

The motive of worship & service: Love.

Love and devotion to Christ was evidenced on several occasions in Mary's life (Luke 10:39; John 11:32).  Mary here showed her love by placing everything secondary to Christ.  Christ was supreme.

Mary had her own reasons for loving Christ - she wasn't imitating others as is often the case among Christians today.

Do you worship and serve Christ because you love Him or because of a sense of duty?  He who works from a sense of duty generally seeks to get off with as little as possible.

Love to the Saviour rises in the heart of the Saved in proportion to the sense which entertains his own sinfulness on the one hand and the Mercy of God on the other.
(Luke 7:42)
