We will progress with more of a simple listing so that you can think about the “world” that God loved.
· Jhn 4:42: The Samaritans who believed called Jesus “the Savior of the world.”
· Jhn 6:14: Those who saw Jesus feed the 5000 said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”
· Jhn 6:33: “For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
· Jhn 6:51: Here is another “whoever,” or more specifically an “anyone” verse … “I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.” (Jesus’ giving life to the world has it’s roots in 1:9-10 where He gives light to all who come into the world.)
· Jhn 7:4,7: Jesus’ earthly brothers call Him to “show Yourself to the world.” He responds telling them, “The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil.”
· Jhn 8:12: “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (He again seems to imply that some in the world will not follow Him.)
· Jhn 8:23,26: Jesus, speaking with the Pharisees (8:13) said, “You are of this world; I am not of this world.” Jesus came unto His own (the Jewish people) and also spoke to the world as He heard from His Father.
· Jhn 9:5: “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
· Jhn 9:39: “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.” (Clearly, in the world there are two kinds of people: blind people who see Jesus, the elect if you will, or in John believers because John’s Gospel never uses the term ‘elect,” and people who claim they can see but are actually made blind by Jesus. That cannot refer to the elect. And if you wonder, John speaks of “elect lady” and the “elect sister” in 2 Jn. 1:1 and 3 Jn. 1:1.
· Jhn 10:36: Jesus was sanctified (set apart) by the Father and sent into the world.
· Jhn 11:9: “If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.”
· Jhn 11:27: Martha says of Jesus, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”
· The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!”
