Read Deut. 17:14-20, The Prophets of Judah

There was supposed to be a close relationship between the King of Israel and the word of God.  1 and 2 Chronicles emphasizes this in the way that it records the name(s) of the prophet(s) who advised the various Davidic kings.  Here is a list.

Such a list goes to emphasize God’s willingness to communicate with men.  God “spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets” (Heb. 1:1).  He warned post-exile Israel not to “be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets preached” (Zech. 1:4-6).  At the point where Judah was taken captive by the Babylonians, the LORD said that he has “sent warnings to them by His messengers, rising up early and sending them, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place.  But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, till there was no remedy” (2 Chron. 3:15-16).  As always: God in love seeking to call His people to repentance, and His people required to hear and heed.
