Things to Come

(#867, Imperial, 1959, 1967)
Read John 16:13.
This is the season when many predictions are made by men as to what one can expect this coming year.  Some have been predicting the most prosperous year we have ever had.  Some seem to think that the economic situation will be good until all the back orders in steel are caught up.  Then they are not sure.

All in all man is uncertain what will take place.  However we find the future revealed with certainty in God's Word.  The Scripture has never failed in connection with things it unfolds.  We wish tonight to point out those things which the Holy Spirit has been pleased to reveal that shall come to pass.

ƒ      The "shall come" of Christ, Heb. 10:37.  Three great promises fell from the lips of our Savior pertaining to future things.
    1.  I will send my Holy Spirit, John 14:26.
    2.  I will build my Church, Matthew 16:18.
    3.  I will come again, John 14:1-3.
The 1st of these has been fulfilled.  The 2nd is being fulfilled.  The 3rd is yet to be fulfilled.  God's seeming delay has caused some to cry out "Where is the promise of His coming" (2 Peter 3:4), not "He that shall come, will come (Heb. 10:37)."  At all times Christians should be expecting His coming (1 Th. 1:10; Phil. 3:20).
ƒ      The "shall come" of the antichrist, 1 John 2:18.  The world today is full of anti-Christian systems, paving the way for the appearance of Satan's great counterfeit.
ƒ      The "shall come" of perilous days, 2 Tim. 3:1.
ƒ      The "shall come" of scoffers, 2 Peter 3:3.  Most scoffers are not taken from the world but from the colleges and seminaries and are often found in pulpits.
ƒ      The "shall come" of entrapment, Luke 21:34-35.  A vast number of Christians are so engrossed with the affairs of this life they have little time for God.
ƒ      The "shall come" of judgment.  This is just as certain as those we see being fulfilled.  It is coming for...
    1.  The Christian, 2 Cor. 5:10.
    2.  The unbeliever, Heb. 9:27.
    3.  The nations, Matt. 25:31-32.

Let us face the truth of these coming events and prepare ourselves accordingly.
