What is Your Life?

(#208, Radio, June 1948; Imperial, 1954)
Read James 4:13-17.

The word "life" has come to the front in recent years.  It is used as a trade name for many articles.
Definitions of "life" are as numerous as there are people...
w   To the miser life is money.
w   To the lawyer life is a trial.
w   To the doctor life is a patient.
w   To the poet life is a song.
w   To the soldier life is a battle.
w   To the teacher life is a school.
The question is personal: What is YOUR life?

False conceptions of life.
ƒ    Life consists of things.  The rich fool thought this (Lk. 12:15). So did Esau, the Prodigal Son and Judas.  They did not seek God first (Matt. 6:33).
ƒ    Life consists of thrills.
1Tm.5:6: She that lives in pleasure is dead while she lives.

A man got off the merry-go-round and was met by his wife with this accusation: "Now look at you; you spent your money, you got off right where you got on, and you ain't been nowhere."

There is a kind of pleasure that is worth living: "At Thy right hand there are pleasures evermore" (Psalm. 16:11).
ƒ    Life consists of theories.  1 Cor. 1:21: "The world by wisdom knew not God."  Men try to find their way through life by the candle of reason.
True estimates of life.
ƒ    The natural man -- the unsaved man.  Life is a vapor (James 4:14).  All the things, thrills and theories will pass away.  As Solomon said, "All is vanity".  It is a lost and hopeless life.
ƒ    The spiritual man -- the saved man.  Christ is his life (Col. 3:4; Gal. 2:20).  Christ is all to him (Phil. 1:21; Prov. 8:35; 1 John 5:12).  This true life is gained when we lose our own lives (Matt. 10:39) and accept Christ.

Life without Christ  is hopeless. Life with Christ is life indeed!
